Some biographical information found on the Web about David Mattison:
I am the David Mattison whose life on the Internet started in 1991 when a librarian friend first introduced me to this relatively new, at least in our part of the world, academic research computer network powered by BCNET. A year later and I was deeply involved with founding and helping create and manage content for the Victoria Free-Net Association's free Internet service, the Victoria Free-Net, today known as the Victoria Telecommunity Network. Up until that point I'd been working with personal computers (Apple II, Kaypro, and IBM PC clones) and bulletin board systems since 1982. So here we are and over two decades later I have my own domain from which I've played around with wikis through the Tiki Wiki software and the WordPress blogging software to share a little of what I know about the Internet/Web and my interests in digital culture and history. After my former Web hosting provider got hacked on October 7, 2008 and all my davidmattison.ca Web sites were deleted and could not be recovered, I switched my Ten Thousand Year Blog to WordPress.com, abandoned the Tiki Wiki software and created this wiki under PBWorks (formerly PBWiki). On August 7, 2010 I relocated my Ten Thousand Year Blog to Google's Blogspot service in order to more fully monetize it and other blogs I maintain. I started my archival career with the British Columbia Archives in February 1981 and retired 29 years later in February 2010.
As you can see by visiting my publications page on this site, I've been researching and writing, chiefly on the topics of British Columbia's photographic history and the Internet/Web, since 1978. Now that I am retired, I am able to devote more time to my writing and should you find yourself in need of a freelance writer who can tackle just about any topic, please send me an e-mail.
My hobbies include electronic music production (my own work), biking, walking and reading.
I returned to work part-time in September 13, 2013 and retired from that job in November 2021.
