January 12, 2003: "What About Rappertie?: Hannah Maynard's Other Photographic Double". Revisionist essay suggesting that Arthur S. Rappertie, Mrs. R. (Hannah) Maynard's photographer for more than 34 years, was the motivating force behind the sudden appearance of photographic experiments credited to her as well as the many fine photographic techniques present in the work of her studio from the late 1870s to her retirement in 1912. An earlier work by me, "The

Multiple Self of Hannah Maynard," did not account for the possibility of Rappertie's influence or involvement with these photographic experiments. No one else has yet questioned Rappertie's role in the emergence of a true artistic aethestic within the studio of Mrs. R. Maynard. A short version of this article was published by the Victoria Times-Colonist newspaper in its Sunday Monitor section on January 12, 2003.
